Mary Jane Oliver was born on September 10, 1935, and died on January 17, 2019. In addition to winning the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, she was also an American poet. As a result of her lifelong passion for solitary walks in the wild, she is inspired by nature rather than the human world. This writing is marked by sincere wonderment at the power of natural imagery, conveyed in an unadorned manner. When Oliver was 14 years old, he began writing poetry.
Career:
In her role as secretary for Edna St. Vincent Millay's sister, she worked at the estate of the poet.
At the age of 28, Oliver published her first book of poems, No Voyage and Other Poems.
A professor at Case Western Reserve University during the early 1980s, Oliver had a distinguished teaching career.
1984: The Pulitzer Prize was awarded to her fifth collection of poetry, American Primitive.
2007: "Far and away, the best-selling poet in this country," The New York Times wrote.
2009: Best American Essays was edited by Oliver.
