Mary II of England Early life, Education, Career, Awards, Achievements, Controversy, Unknown Facts

About (Profile/Biography):

Mary II of England, a well-known Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland, was born in London. The previous King James II, who together with her husband King William held the titles of joint sovereign of England, Scotland, and Ireland, was the father of Mary II. Her father assumed the throne of England after her uncle passed away, but because of his pro-Catholic policies, he was an unpopular monarch who the opposition persuaded William and Mary to remove. They were the ones who oversaw the passage of the crucial Bill of Rights, which subordinated the sovereign powers.

Mary II of England Legacy:

Mary, on the other hand, detested politics and preferred that her husband, William, take charge. Due to this, a Declaration of Indulgence that made William and Mary joint sovereigns was signed.

Mary was capable of making crucial judgements, she frequently asked William's opinion or for his permission. Apart from this, Mary was a devout and holy woman. She participated actively in church matters and attended twice-daily prayers.

Mary II, James and Anne's eldest child, has been second in line to the throne to her father since she was a little child.

James, Duke of York, Mary's father, succeeded King Charles II as ruler of England, Scotland, and Ireland in 1685. The former King's illegitimate son, Monmouth, attempted to obstruct his ascension by enforcing an invasion, but he was repulsed, caught, and put to death.

Mary II of England Title:

Mary was duly appointed as queen regnant when James' banishment left a vacancy at the very top of the hierarchy.

William largely exercised power over the government, Mary's position as queen regnant only became apparent while he was away. She was a strong, decisive, and successful leader.

Mary II of England Death:

On March 5, 1695, her remains was laid in state before being interred at Westminster Abbey. Members of both Houses were present during her funeral.
