Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was the 3rd President of the U.S., serving two terms from 1801 to 1809. Among the most important documents in American history, the Declaration of Independence was also authored by him. In addition to being a lawyer, planter, and politician, Jefferson was born in Virginia. With his political views and writings, he contributed greatly to the development of the United States by advocating individual liberty and a limited government.

Thomas Jefferson family:
Thomas Jefferson had a complex family life. He was married to Martha Wayles Skelton Jefferson in 1772 and had six children with her, but only two survived to adulthood: Martha Jefferson Randolph and Mary Jefferson Eppes.
After Martha's death in 1782, Jefferson did not remarry, and he became known for his close relationship with one of his slaves, Sally Hemings, who was the half-sister of his late wife.
Hemings lived with Jefferson at Monticello and had six children with him, all of whom he freed after his death.

As an 83-year-old man, Thomas Jefferson passed away on July 4, 1826. His death was reported to have occurred within hours of John Adams's death. His natural cause of death was heart failure in Monticello, Virginia, where he lived.
