• Raoul A. Cortez was born in 1905 in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, as one of nine siblings. His father was a radio station owner in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
• Raoul A. Cortez sold eggs on the streets as a young man to earn money for airtime on local radio stations, where he sold advertising for his variety show. The family emigrated to the United States during the Mexican Revolution in the 1910s.

1948- 1949:
• Raoul A. Cortez served as a leader of the League of United Latin American Citizens, an important civil rights organization.
• A former director for District 15, he led the organization for two consecutive terms in 1948 and 1949, during which he oversaw the Delgado v. As a result of the Bastrop Independent School District case, Mexican Americans were no longer segregated in public schools in Texas.
• Raoul A. Cortez worked closely with Mexican President Miguel Aleman and American President Harry S. Truman to ameliorate Mexican immigrant workers' plight.
1953:
• Raoul A. Cortez brought in Manuel Bernal, a popular Mexican radio professional and a skilled musician and writer, 1953 to create commercials and musical programs.
1955:
• Raoul A. Cortez launched KCOR-TV channel 41 on Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) two years later, after many years of lobbying. Hispanic television was broadcast exclusively on UHF for the first time in the continental US.
1994:
• Raoul A. Cortez applied for a license to open his radio station in 1944. KCOR 1350 AM was the first Spanish-language radio station owned and operated by a Hispanic, with the signature line "La Voz Mexicana, the Voice of Mexican Americans."
