Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi was born on 29 September 1934 & died on 20 October 2021. He was a psychologist who was Hungarian-American. His theory of "flow" refers to a highly focused state of mind conducive to productivity. He was a Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Management at Claremont Graduate University. He was also a professor at the University of Chicago's psychology department and Lake Forest College.

• Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi was born in 1934 in Fiume, now Rijeka, and then a part of the Kingdom of Italy. Originally derived from Transylvania's Cskszentmihály village, his name represents his family heritage.

• His father was a career diplomat at the Hungarian Consulate in Fiume. He lost a half-brother during the Siege of Budapest in 1944, and his other half-brother, Moricz, was interned in labor camps in Siberia. Mihaly and Moricz reunited in Budapest decades later.

• Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi immigrated to the U. S. when he was 22, working nights to support himself while studying at the University of Chicago (UChicago).

• Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi received a B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1959 and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1965. After teaching at Lake Forest College, he became a professor at UChicago in 1969.
