Oscar De La Hoya is a retired professional boxer from 1992 until 2008 who now works as a boxing promoter in the United States. Among his accomplishments are the lineal championships in three weight classes and 11 world titles in six weight classes. According to BoxRec, he is the 38th-best fighter of all time, pound for pound. When De La Hoya led the United States at the 1992 Summer Olympics, the media dubbed him "The Golden Boy of boxing." Shortly after graduating from James A. Garfield High School, he received a gold medal in the lightweight division and reputedly "set a game back on its feet."

At Age 15: At the national Junior Olympics, he won the 119-pound weight class.
In 1989: De La Hoya won the bantamweight division of the National Golden Gloves championship.
In 1990: He won the U.S. featherweight National Championship and won the gold medal at the Goodwill Games that year.
In 1992: De La Hoya made his mother's dream into a passion for his training as the Summer Olympics in Barcelona approached.
In 2000: De La Hoya and his siblings opened the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center at White Memorial Medical Center (WMMC), in memory of their mother, with a $350,000 donation.
