Ruskin Bond was born in May 1934. He is an Indian author of British descent. His father, Aubrey Alexander Bond, was a Royal Air Force (RAF) officer posted in India. He attended Bishop Cotton School in Shimla. For his novel in English, Our Trees still grow in the Dehra, and he won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1992. His first novel, The Room on the Roof, won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in 1957. His works include short stories, essays, novels, and books for children. He won the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014.
