Edward Paul Abbey was born on January 29, 1927and died on March 14, 1989. Known for his criticism of public land policies and advocacy of environmental issues, he was an American author, essayist, and environmental activist. He is best known for his non-fiction autobiographical work Desert Solitaire, which is considered to be an iconic work of nature writing. An early environmentalist classic, The Monkey Wrench Gang has been cited as an inspiration by eco-terrorists and environmentalists in general.
