Swami Ramdev, well-known as Baba Ramdev, is a businessman, yoga teacher, and Patanjali Ayurved brand ambassador from India. Ramdev is well recognized for spreading awareness of yoga and Ayurveda in India. Since 2002, Ramdev has been planning and leading sizable yoga retreats and has been streaming his yoga lessons on several TV networks. Together with his coworker Balkrishna, he started Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. He declared in 2010 that he will start a political party for the general election of 2014. He does, however, now openly endorse the BJP, also known as the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In 2002: Ramdev started making TV appearances as a yoga teacher on Sanskar TV.
In 2006: Ramdev and Balkrishna started Patanjali Ayurved in Haridwar, a company that produces consumer goods.
In 2009: Ramdev established the Bharat Swabhiman Trust.
In 2010: Ramdev revealed his plans to launch the Bharat Swabhiman India Pride political party.
In 2011: Ramdev called on the government to adopt the Jan Lokpal Bill, which would establish an impartial panel to look into claims of public corruption.

In 2011: Ramdev was honored with the Sri Chandrashekharendra Saraswati National Eminence Award.

He became a student of Acharya Baldevji at Gurukul Kalwa in India, where he studied Indian scripture, yoga, and Sanskrit. He received sanyasi Diksha from Swami ShankarDev Ji and adopted the name Swami Ramdev.
Swami Ramdev continues to serve as the company's spokesperson and makes the majority of business decisions, although Acharya Balkrishna owns 94 percent of the company's shares and is in charge of day-to-day operations.
