John Friend, a well-known American yoga guru, was born in United States. When his mother, Ann Friend, gave him tales of yogis with secret knowledge and extraordinary abilities, Friend first became familiar with yoga at the age of 8 in Youngstown, Ohio. At the age of 13, he started reading the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads to learn about yoga philosophy. He also started practising asanas by using Swami Satchidananda's Integral Hatha Yoga book as a guide.
John Friend Anusara Yoga
Anusara is a form of hatha yoga that was established by a friend on the Tantric idea of inherent goodness.
The name Anusara, which means "flowing with Grace," was derived by a friend.
Friend condensed everything into five "Universal Principles of Alignment," which are based on Iyengar's theory of alignment.
Additionally, Friend improved his quinary system, introducing what he dubbed "the Three A's of Anusara."
The philosophical framework of Anusara was based on what Friend had learned in Indian schools.
Friend infuses his other academic pursuits as well, including Taoism, Sufism, Kabbalah, and Theosophy.
John Friend 2012 scandal
An anonymous informant made claims in 2012, which were eventually posted on the blog YogaDork. The informant produced proof that John Friend had relationships with multiple married Anusara staff members and teachers. Friend said in an interview that this claim was accurate.
John Friend also failed to notify the employees when he stopped supporting the defined benefit plans for his workers, in violation of ERISA laws.
Besides, John Friend put his staff members and personal helpers in legal danger by arranging for them to personally receive delivery of marijuana parcels sent to Anusara's office for Friend's personal use.
