A Nobel laureate from India, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar was born on October 19, 1910. He is best known for his work on the theoretical structure and evolution of stars. Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar was an Indian-American astrophysicist who won the Nobel Prize for Physics for his mathematical theory of black holes. His work spanned stellar structure, radiant transfer, white dwarfs, quantum theory, hydrodynamic stability, as well as the mathematical theory of black holes. Young Chandrasekhar's father was a government official who followed in his footsteps when he was born into a large family in Lahore, Punjab.
Career:
In 1937: As a result of Dr. Otto Struve's recommendation and the recommendation of President Robert Maynard Hutchins, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago.
The University of Chicago was Chandrasekhar's home for almost six decades of his career. In 1942, he became an associate professor, and in 1944, he became a full professor.
In 1985: His appointment as a Distinguished Service Professor of Theoretical Astrophysics in 1947 led to his retirement.
From 1952 to 1971: He edited 'The Astrophysical Journal,' which was transformed into a National Journal of the American Astronomical Society under his editorship.
In 1966: He worked at NASA's Laboratory for Astrophysics and Space Research, which was built in 1966, as part of his career.
In 1990: He began researching Sir Isaac Newton's "Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica" for a project.

The two struck up a deep friendship while he was studying at the Presidency College in Madras and soon fell in love. Their marriage took place in September 1936 and lasted for many years. They did not have any children.
