Jacob Lawrence, a well known American painter, was born in New Jersey. One of the most significant African American painters of the 20th century was Jacob Lawrence, an American painter and printer. In Harlem, New York, Lawrence was raised in abject poverty. At a young age, he started painting and drawing, going to the American Artists School after studying at the Harlem Art Workshop.

Jacob Lawrence Career:

Jacob continued to work as an artist up until his passing in 2000, and his creations have continued to inspire and have an impact on audiences and new generations of artists.

Lawrence's use of vivid colours, simple forms, and dramatic compositions define his style.

His works are included in the collections of important museums and organisations, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art York and the National Museum of American Painting in Washington, D.C. 

He worked in a number of media, include painting, printmaking, and murals.

Jacob was particularly interested in African American history and the experiences of common people.

His works frequently discuss issues of social justice, such as the Westward Expansion of African Americans from the rural South to a urban North and the Civil Rights Movement.
