Enedina Alves Marques, The first female engineer of Parana, was born on 13 January 1913. She was a Brazilian engineer and teacher during her career with the Paraná State Department of Water and Energy. The first black woman to receive an engineering degree in Brazil, she graduated from the Federal University of Paraná in 1945.
Enedina Alves Marques Career:
Upon graduation from the program in 1945, she became the first Black woman engineer in Brazil and the first female engineer in Paraná.
During her education, Marques had worked as a teacher and housekeeper to support herself, but by 1946 she had become a transportation and public works engineering assistant.
A number of important projects were accomplished while she worked for the state's hydroelectric power system.
As metamorfoses do escravo, an UNESCO-funded project profiling the success and hardships of Afro-Brazilians, was interviewed Marques in 1961.
As a reward for her contributions to Paraná, Governor Ney Braga guaranteed her a pension equal to that of a judge upon her retirement in 1962.
Enedina Alves Marques Death:
As a 68-year-old widow, Marques died of a heart attack at her home in the Lido Building in downtown Curitiba in 1981.

Enedina Alves Marques was honored by the establishment of the Instituto de Mulheres Negras Enedina Alves Marques in 2006.
