Dr. Frank Jobe was born in North Carolina, in 1925. He graduated from LaGrange College in Georgia with a bachelor's in chemistry before continuing on to Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California for medical school.

The sports medicine industry was revolutionised by Dr. Jobe. He spent several years as the Los Angeles Dodgers' club doctor, where he made a name for himself with his ground-breaking research on elbow injuries.
He is credited with creating the now-famous "Tommy John" surgery, in which a tendon from another area of the body is used to repair a torn elbow ligament.
The Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, which has grown to be one of the most renowned sports medical clinics in the world, was founded by Dr. Jobe as well. He was the organization's head of staff from 1969 to 1990.
