Dr. Mod Helmy was born on July 25, 1901, & died on January 10, 1982. His work during the Holocaust saved several Jews from Nazi persecution in Berlin. Yad Vashem recognizes him as a Righteous Among the Nations, the first Arab to receive such an honor.
Dr. Mod Helmy Career:
• Dr. Mod Helmy earned his medical degree at the University of Berlin in the early 1920s. His medical degree led him to practice in Germany.

• Dr. Helmy faced discrimination and threats due to his Egyptian heritage during the 1930s when the Nazi regime rose to power and enacted anti-Semitic laws. The doctor continued to provide medical care to a variety of patients despite these challenges.

• Dr. Mod Helmy was summoned to the Prinz Albrecht Hotel, the notorious headquarters of the SS in Berlin, in 1943. Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, was cared for by a medical team.
