Austin S. Miller, a well-known retired United States Army general, was born in Hawaii. General Austin S. Miller, a retired American soldier, served as the previous head of the US Africa Command. Miller, who was born in 1956, spent more than 37 years in the military and took part in a number of operations, namely Operation Desert Shield and Operations Desert Storm. Miller had a number of executive posts throughout his career, including the Joint Readiness Training Facility, the Joint Special Operations Command, and authority of the 10th Mountain Division.

In his capacity as the United States Central Command's deputy commander, Austin was in charge of directing combat actions in the Middle East.

Miller was chosen to lead military operations and collaborations in Africa as the head of the United States Africa Command in 2019.
