Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, a first-generation entrepreneur, was born on March 23, 1953 in Bangalore, India. In 1968, she graduated from Bishop's Cotton Girls High School. She then enrolled at Mount Carmel College in Bangalore. She earned her bachelor's degree in Zoology in 1973. She is a worldwide business leader with over four decades of biotechnology expertise. She began her biotech expedition in 1978 from her garage in India. Today, that journey is improving people's lives all over the world. She is regarded as an innovative thinker who has achieved numerous firsts. Biocon, under her leadership, fulfils the commitment to making medicines affordable and accessible to patients around the world.
Careers:
In 1974: Mrs. Shaw started as a trainee at Carlton and United Breweries.
In 1978: Kiran left her previous position to work at Biocon Biochemicals Limited in Ireland.
In 1978: Mazumdar-Shaw was appointed managing director of Biocon India at the recommendation of Auchincloss.
In 1994: Kiran established a subsidiary of the company known as Syngene.
In 2004: Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw became India's wealthiest woman after Biocon went public.
From 2005 to 2010: Kiran closed over 2000 high-value R&D licencing deals.
In 2007: Mazumdar also founded a cancer treatment centre in Bangalore.
