James Nathaniel Toney is a former professional boxer from the United States who contested from 1988 to 2017. From 1991 to 1993, he held the IBF and Lineal Middleweight championships, and from 1993 to 1994, he held the IBF Super Middleweight and IBF Cruiserweight championships. In 2003, he won the IBF Cruiserweight title. In 2005 and 2006, Toney also made two challenges for the world heavyweight title. He won the first contest, but his victory was later overturned owing to a positive drug test. He participated in fifteen world title fights overall, spanning four weight divisions.

In 1988: Toney competed in his first battle as a pro.
In 1991: Toney defeated Michael Nunn in eleven rounds to win the IBF and lineal middleweight championships.
In 1993: He competed for the super middleweight title of the IBF against Iran Barkley.
In 2005: He won the 12-round bout for the World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight championship by unanimous decision over John Ruiz.
In 2012: Toney beat Bobby Gunn by stopping him in the fifth round as a result of an injury to Gunn's hand.
