Lawrence Gene Fullmer was a popular boxer born on July 21, 1931. He was the World Middleweight champion. Since 1951, Fullmer has won 29 of his 30 professional fights, 19 of them by knockout. He was managed by his mentor, Marv Jenson, for most of his career, who encouraged many young people in West Jordan, Utah, to become amateur boxers.  On January 2, 1963, Fullmer lost his middleweight title to Dick Tiger via unanimous decision. This would be Fullmer's final professional fight.

• 1951: Gene Fullmer turned professional at the age of 19 on September 17, 1951, with a victory over Chico Vejar.
• 1957: On January 2, 1957, Fullmer faced Carmen Basilio for the vacant NBA middleweight title and won by unanimous decision.
• 1957-1958: Fullmer defended his NBA middleweight title against the likes of Basilio and Spider Webb during this period.
• 1959: On January 2, 1959, Fullmer faced Sugar Ray Robinson for the second time and defeated him via unanimous decision to retain his NBA middleweight title.
• 1960: Fullmer faced Robinson for the third time on May 1, 1960, and lost by a split decision, relinquishing his NBA middleweight title.
• 1961: On September 23, 1961, Fullmer fought and defeated Robinson for the fourth and final time, winning unanimously to become the new undisputed middleweight champion.
• 1962: Fullmer defended his middleweight title against Benny Paret and Terry Downes this year.
