Ethan Andrew Canin was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on July 19, 1960. A physician, educator, and author, he is a native of the United States. A faculty member of the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa, he is an author and writer. In his early years, Ethan Canin moved around the midwestern and northeastern United States before settling in San Francisco, California. His education began at Town School and ended at San Francisco University High School.
