Rajesh Khanna was born in Punjab, India, on December 29, 1942. He was the first Super Star of the Bollywood industry and a politician. From 1969 to 1971, Rajesh Khanna starred in a record 15 hit movies in a row. All across the 1970s and 1980s, he was the top-paid actor in Hindi cinema. Four BFJA awards and five Filmfare Awards have been bestowed to him, and in 2013, he was posthumously given the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honor.
Acting and Political Career
Khanna made his first acting debut in 1966 with Akhri Khat, India’s first official Oscar nominee, in 1967. On the Filmfare Award’s 50th Anniversary, he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
During 1992 and 1996, he served in the 10th Lok Sabha as a member of parliament for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, having been elected as an Indian National Congress candidate in the 1992 New Delhi by-election.
Personal Life
Rajesh Khanna was married to Dimple Kapadia in March 1973, just eight months before her debut film Bobby, and they had two kids. Twinkle Khanna, their older daughter, is an actress married to actor Akshay Kumar.
Death
Khanna died on July 18, 2012, following a long illness. The Prime Minister of India has honored him with a stamp and statue in his honor and renamed a road after him.
