Sushant Singh Rajput was born in Maharashtra, India, on 21 January 1986. He was an Indian actor who primarily worked in Hindi films. Kedarnath, Chhichhore, and M.S. Dhoni were his commercially successful Bollywood films.
Rajput got a Screen Award and was nominated for the Filmfare Awards three times for his contributions to the Bollywood film industry. Since 2017, he has appeared on Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list two times.
Career
Rajput began his career in the film industry in Mumbai after dropping out of his engineering studies at the Delhi College of Engineering. Then he appeared in Hindi television serials. His first performance was in the romantic drama Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, after a leading role in the soap opera serial Pavitra Rishta.
His Bollywood debut in the Kai Po Che became a critical commercial success. After that, he played the titular detective role in the action thriller film Detective Byomkesh Bakshy and starred in the romantic comedy film Shuddh Desi Romance.
Achievements
Rajpur also acted in the reincarnation drama film Raabta, the historical drama film Sonchiriya, and the action thriller film Drive, among others. However, his highest-grossing films supported the satire PK and the titular character in Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s sports biography.
Rajput got his debut nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his portrayal in the latter, which also ensued to be the winning nominee at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. In addition, he founded a charitable organization and was listed as a co-founder of a technological startup and acting.
Death
Rajput committed suicide at his residency in Bandra, Mumbai, in June 2020, aged 34. His last film, Dil Bechara, was released prematurely on the streaming platform Hotstar.
