The Social Reckoning is Aaron Sorkin’s 2026 drama inspired by the real-world Facebook Files and the whistleblowing of Frances Haugen. Rather than revisiting the creation of Facebook explored in The Social Network, the film moves into a much later chapter of the company’s history, focusing on the internal revelations that brought Facebook’s practices under intense public scrutiny.Show More
Sony describes the movie as a companion piece to The Social Network and frames it as a David and Goliath story centered on a young engineer taking on one of the world’s most powerful technology companies.
Mikey Madison plays Frances Haugen, the Facebook engineer at the heart of the story. Haugen becomes increasingly concerned about what she discovers inside the company and ultimately decides that the information she possesses should reach the outside world. Her path brings her into contact with Jeff Horwitz, portrayed by Jeremy Allen White. Horwitz is a Wall Street Journal reporter whose investigative work becomes closely connected to Haugen’s disclosures. Together, they embark on a dangerous process of uncovering and exposing information Facebook had kept closely guarded.
Jeremy Strong portrays Mark Zuckerberg, placing the founder and CEO on the other side of the film’s central conflict. The story therefore moves between the person revealing internal information, the journalist investigating it, and the powerful corporate structure affected by those revelations. Wunmi Mosaku is also part of the principal cast and has been reported as playing Raya, although official Sony materials have so far provided considerably less character information about her role.
The movie explores secrecy, journalism, corporate responsibility, technology, personal conviction, and the consequences of revealing information that can affect millions of people. Its real-event foundation gives the character choices particular weight, while Sorkin’s screenplay turns the Facebook Files era into a tense dramatic story. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on October 9, 2026.
