Set in the Old West, Last Train to Fortune follows Cecil Peachtree, a well-educated English schoolteacher who reaches a desolate station on his way to begin a new life as headmaster in Fortune, only to discover that he has missed the last train. Stranded and robbed by the illiterate gunslinger Dooley, Cecil makes an unlikely bargain: Dooley will escort him to Fortune in exchange for Cecil’s waiting teacher’s stipend.
