Jayaprakash Narayan, born on 11 October 1902, was an Indian independence activist and political leader. He was imprisoned for his involvement in the civil disobedience movement against British rule in India, which was popularly called JP or Lok Nayak ("The People's Hero"). His young mind was greatly inspired by the courage and valor of Indian kings when he read about them as a kid in Bihar, British India. Having excelled in school, he moved to the United States to pursue higher education.
