Ellen Ochoa, an American engineer and NASA astronaut was born on May 10, 1958. Previously, she was the director of the Johnson Space Center. Her nine-day mission aboard Space Shuttle Discovery in 1993 made her the first Hispanic woman in space. Upon Michael Coats' retirement on December 31, 2012, Ochoa became director.
