The young adult novels That Was Then, This Is Now and The Outsiders by American author Susan Eloise Hinton are her best-known works. Hinton, who was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on July 22, 1948, started writing when she was 15 years old. The author is highly known for her skill at perfectly capturing teenage angst and societal issues in her books.

S. E. Hinton Career:
S.E. Hinton started writing "The Outsiders" when she was just 15 years old. It has sold over 14 million copies since then! 
Viking Press stated that in 2017, it sold over 500,000 copies a year.
Hinton is a boss author who's written a bunch of other young adult novels like "That Was Then, This Is Now" and "Rumble Fish." 
Her books even got turned into movies, and she's done some screenwriting herself.
Hinton was so involved in the movie adaptations that she acted as a location scout and even had some cameo roles in three out of four films.
