John Grisham was born on February 8, 1955. He is a novelist, lawyer, and former member of the 7th District Mississippi House of Representatives. According to the American Academy of Achievement, his works have sold almost 300 million copies worldwide.  Together with Tom Clancy and J.R. R. Rowling, Grisham is one of only 3 authors to sell two 2M copies on the first printing.
John Grisham Career:
• A Time to Kill, Grisham's first novel, was published in June 1989. More than seven million copies of Grisham's first best-seller, The Firm, were sold.

• His career as a lawyer spanned about a decade before he became a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1983. However, his embarrassment at Mississippi's national reputation and the Education Reform Act of 1982 motivated him to take on the incumbent.

• John Grisham gave up practicing law after the success of his second novel, The Firm, except for representing the family of a railroad worker killed on the job.

• John Grisham shifted his focus from law to more general rural Southern issues with A Painted House but continued to write legal thrillers about once a year after that. Then, in 2002, The Summons topped the charts again.

• John Grisham began writing legal thrillers for children in 2010. A 13-year-old character named Theodore Boone provides his classmates with legal advice ranging from rescuing impounded dogs to preventing foreclosure.
