Ellen Margit Ingrid Nordin was born on 10th August, 1897 in Karlstad. She died on 3rd May 1982 in Saltsjöbaden. Margit Nordin won the Vasaloppet for the first time in 1923. In southern Dalarna, she competed for IFK Grängesberg while living in Grängesberg. As a gymnastics director, Nordin specialized in the sport. Until 1981, women were banned from participating in the Vasaloppet after this race. She is such a inspiration to all the women.

• The physiotherapist and gymnastics teacher Nordin worked in Grängesberg. Her patient was 15 km away one winter, so she had to ski three miles every day to visit him.
• Also, she was used to hiking/training marches of four to six miles a day. In order to find out whether Nordin's fitness could also last for a full race, she decided to do a test.
