He was drawn to the University of Miami after graduation, where he helped the Hurricanes win the 1987 national championship by setting school records for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown receptions.

Irvin made history by being Dallas' first rookie wide receiver in more than 20 years to start the first game of the season.
