ESPN ranked him #1 overall among the 2020 class of shooting guards as a consensus five-star recruit. He attended Prolific Prep in Napa, California, and decided to forego college basketball to join the NBA G League Ignite team. A second overall pick in the NBA draft was selected by the Houston Rockets for Green in 2021. He follows Jordan Clarkson and Raymond Townsend as the third NBA player of Filipino descent.

• In 2020, Green was rated five stars by 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals, the top recruiting services. ESPN ranked him among the top recruits in his class. In addition, many NCAA Division I basketball programs offered him before he turned 15, including Arizona, Florida State, and USC.
• Jalen Green announced his decision to join the NBA G League on April 16, 2020. Memphis, Auburn, and Oregon all offered him positions in the G League, but he went with the G League.
