Walter Edward Dandy, a well-known neurosurgeon and scientist, was born in Sedalia, Missouri. Walter Dandy is regarded as one of neurosurgery's founders. Numerous advancements and discoveries in the fields of pediatric neurosurgery, neuroradiology, operational neurosurgery, and cerebrovascular neurosurgery are attributed to Dandy. The first cerebral aneurysm was clipped and the first intensive care unit was established by Dandy, which led to the development of cerebrovascular neurosurgery.

Dandy conducted research to identify the causes of hydrocephalus.

He was brought back to the Johns Hopkins Medical Center, where he passed away on April 19. In Pikesville, Maryland's Druid Ridge Cemetery, he was laid to rest.
