Femi Kuti was born on June 16, 1962 as Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti in London. He was raised in Lagos. Fela Kuti's eldest son is Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a leader in the struggle for women's rights, a political activist, and an aristocrat. During his childhood, Femi Kuti played in his father's band, Egypt 80. As a musician independent of his father's legacy, Femi formed Positive Force in 1986.
Femi Kuti Career:
• Femi began playing the saxophone at age 15 and later joined his father's band. He attended Baptist Academy and Igbobi College.
• His band, Positive Force, was formed in the late 1980s with former Fela Anikulapo Kuti keyboard player Dele Sosimi (Gbedu Resurrection).
• The French Cultural Center in Lagos and Christian Mousset invited him to perform at the Festival d'Angoulême in France, the New Morning Club in Paris, and the Moers Festival in Germany in 1988.
• Femi collaborated with Common, Mos Def, and Jaguar Wright on his 2001 album Fight to Win. However, it has been him luck not to win a Grammy award, despite being nominated four times: in 2003, 2010, 2012, and 2013.
• Femi Kuti's classic song "Water No Get Enemy" was also remade by Femi for Red Hot & Riot, a tribute album released by the Red Hot Organization and MCA.
• It was announced on 19 December 2014 that Chocolate City Music Group and Femi Kuti had reached a management agreement. The news was disclosed on the official Instagram accounts of Chocolate City Music and Audu Maikori.

2014: Femi Kuti performed at the BMO event on 22 November 2014 alongside his new label mate M.I (Jude Abaga).
2015: Femi Kuti performed alongside his brother Seun Kuti at the 2 Kings concert on 24 April 2015. The brothers have never performed together before, so it's a significant performance.
2017: Femi Kuti is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for keeping a single note on sax while breathing circularly on 15 May 2017. It took him 51 minutes and 35 seconds to set the record.
