Donnie Iris was born on February 28, 1943. He is an American rock musician best known for his work with the Jaggerz and Wild Cherry in the 1970s and his solo career with the Cruisers in the 1980s. In 1970, he wrote a #2 Billboard hit with the Jaggerz, "The Rapper," and joined Wild Cherry after they scored #1 with "Play That Funky Music." Also, in the early 1980s, he became a solo success with songs like "Ah! Leah!" and "Love Is Like a Rock."

Donnie Iris Early Life And Early Career (1943–63)
• Donnie Iris was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Ellwood City. Having grown up in a household where his mother had sung in Curly Venezie's orchestra, Dominic learned how to sing at an early age.
• His mother's favorite singers, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett, influenced him. Ierace began singing at weddings at the age of five and, by eight, was performing on local television and entering talent contests.
Donnie Iris Later Endeavors And New Albums (1994–2009)
• In 1994, original members Albritton McClain and Kevin Valentine reunited with Iris, Avsec, and Hoenes to record their first album of entirely new material in over a decade. One reunion show was performed by the band at Conneaut Lake during recording. In 1997, Poletown was released.
• The band released their first live album in 1998. A collection of tracks played live at Nick's Fat City, a popular Pittsburgh nightclub! Bass guitarist Paul Goll, along with drummer Tommy Rich, made their first appearance on At Nick's Fat City.
