After struggling academically in high school, Ruettiger attended Joliet Junior College before transferring to Holy Cross Junior College. He eventually transferred to the University of Notre Dame, where he tried out for the football team multiple times before finally earning a spot as a walk-on. In 1975, he achieved his lifelong dream of playing for Notre Dame, appearing in a single game and making a sack in the final play.
After college, Ruettiger became a motivational speaker, sharing his inspiring story of perseverance and determination with audiences across the country. He has also authored several books, including "Rudy's Lessons for Young Champions" and "Rudy: My Story."
