During World War II, Ito's parents, who were Japanese immigrants, were interned. In 1995, Lance ruled over the well-known O.J. Simpson murder trial.

Lance Ito Education

Ito attended Hollywood High School after moving to Los Angeles as a child. He studied political science at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he graduated in 1972.

The next year, Ito graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 1975.

Lance Ito Career

As a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles County, Ito started his legal career. He first worked in the Hardcore Gang Division of the office before moving over to the Organized Crime Division.

Governor George Deukmejian selected Ito to serve as a judge on the Los Angeles County Superior Court in 1987.

Lance Ito ‎- O. J. Simpson murder trial

Ito was chosen to preside over O.J. Simpson's trial in 1994 after he was charged with killing Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. One of the well-publicized trials in American history, the trial lasted for almost a year.

Ito faced harsh criticism for his actions throughout the trial, including permitting cameras in the courtroom and allowing the defence to use a contentious race card.

Lance Ito Personal Life

Ito has had two marriages. His first wife was Margaret Ann York, the first female deputy chief of the Los Angeles Police Department. In 1999, they got divorced. Ito later wed Peggy York, a former deputy chief of the LAPD, in 2001.

Ito has a background in law and has also taught sushi-making seminars. He is also a skilled sushi chef. Also, he has made appearances in a number of films and TV shows, including one Simpsons episode where he played himself.
