Nora Ephron was born on May 19, 1941 and died on June 26, 2012. Her professional career spanned the fields of journalism, writing, as well as filmmaking. It is best known that she is known for her romantic comedy films and is the recipient of three Writers Guild of America Awards, as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Silkwood (1983). It is said that Ephron always aspired to become a poet, writer, satirist, and critic of the kind of international stature like Dorothy Parker, which he achieved in New York City when he was in high school. According to Ephron, she was inspired to pursue a career in journalism by her high school journalism teacher, Charles Simms, who encouraged her.

The first play written by Ephron, Imaginary Friends (2002), was recognized by The New York Times as one of the ten best plays of the 2002–03 New York theatre season.
Also, as a co-author, she co-wrote the award-winning play, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, for which she received the Drama Desk Award.
As a result of the excellent performance of Lucky Guy, Ephron received a posthumous Tony Award nomination in 2013.
Aside from her writing, Ephron also directed a number of films, including the critically acclaimed Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and You've Got Mail (1998), both of which starred Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.
Silkwood is the film that Ephron co-wrote with Alice Arlen in 1983.
