Harry Reasoner was born in 1923, in Dakota City, Iowa. Harry attended the University of Minnesota and had a degree in journalism in 1944. After serving in World War II, Reasoner returned to the University of Minnesota to earn a graduate degree in political science.
Harry Reasoner Career in Journalism:
After finishing school, Reasoner started his journalism career with a reporter position at the Minneapolis Times. He took his talents to CBS News in 1956 as a correspondent. Five years later in 1961 he jumped ship to ABC News and became a co-anchor of their evening news show, “ABC Evening News.”
In addition to his TV work, Reasoner was also a correspondent for “60 Minutes” and hosted multiple other shows like “The Reasoner Report” and “Calendar.” Loved by many, his reporting style was always straightforward and no-nonsense. His colleagues held him in high regard.
Harry Reasoner Later Career and Legacy:
In the 1980s, Reasoner returned to CBS News and co-anchored the evening news program, "CBS Evening News." He also hosted the prime-time news program, "West 57th," and continued to contribute to "60 Minutes."
Reasoner retired from broadcasting in 1991, and passed away in 1991 due to complications from pneumonia. He is remembered as one of the most respected and influential journalists of his time, and was posthumously inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1993.
