• Gentzler began his career in WKYC-TV, the NBC station for Cleveland, Ohio.
• He then went on to work at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia.
• From 1979 to 1983 he co-anchored WSOC-TV’s 6 o’clock and 11 o’clock newscasts.
• In 1989 he joined Washington, D.C.’s NBC4 as a news anchor.
• Around 1995, Gentzler became the co-anchor of their evening newscast alongside Jim Vance.
