Dexter Price Filkins is a journalist from the United States who is best known for his work for The New York Times covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a nominee for the Pulitzer Prize in 2002 for his reports from Afghanistan, and he and a group of Times writers shared the award in 2009 for their reports from Pakistan and Afghanistan. He has been referred to as "the greatest battle journalist of his generation." The New Yorker is where he presently writes. Filkins obtained a Master of Philosophy in international affairs at Oxford University in 1984 after receiving a B.A. in political science from the Florida University in 1983. He studied there at St Antony's College.

In 2000: Filkins was the Los Angeles Times' New Delhi bureau chief for three years before joining the Times.
From 2003 to 2006: He provided updates from the Iraqi Baghdad office of The New York Times.
In 2006 to 2007: Filkins was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University.
