Vera Ellen Wang is a fashion designer from the USA. At the age of eight, Wang started learning how to skate under the instruction of Peter Dunfield and Sonya Klopfer. She spent the remainder of the year training with the Skating Club of New York. She trained with pairs partner James Stuart while still in high school and participated in the 1968 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. She was highlighted in the January 9, 1968 issue of Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd. She joined the fashion industry after being rejected from the American Olympic squad. Skating is multidimensional, according to Wang, who still finds enjoyment in it.
Career:
In 1968: At the Waldorf Astoria New York's International Debutante Ball, Wang made her debut as a high society debutante.
In 1990: She established her own design studio, which sells her recognisable bridal gowns, in the Carlyle Hotel in New York City.
In 2001: She released a book called Vera Wang on Weddings.
In 2002: Wang started to venture into the world of home fashion and introduced The Vera Wang China and Crystal Collection.
In 2006: Wang has an agreement with the department store chain Kohl's to create the Simply Vera brand of affordable ready-to-wear garments exclusively for them.
Awards and Achievements:
2005: Awarded CFDA Women’s Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
2006: She got the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
2013: The Council of Fashion Designers of America gave her a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Unknown Facts:
Vera was the youngest editor ever at "Vogue" Magazine and worked there for sixteen years as their Senior Fashion Editor. She later rose to the position of design director for Ralph Lauren after appearing in "Vogue" magazine.
She says her designs are still inspired by her years as a figure skater.
