Katherine Noel Valentine Brosnahan Spade was a businessman and fashion designer from the United States. The designer company Kate Spade New York was founded and co-owned by her. Spade went to The university of Kansas after graduating from the all-female Catholic secondary school St. Teresa's Academy. Later, she switched to Arizona State University for her enrollment. She enrolled the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, expecting to work in television production after earning a journalism degree in 1985. She trained in sales at Carter's Men Shop in Phoenix while still in college; there, she worked with Andy Spade, who would eventually become her husband and business partner.

Career:
In 1991: She quit Mademoiselle after rising to the position of Senior Fashion Editor/Head of Accessories.
In 1993: Andy and Kate established Kate Spade New York.
In 1996: The Kate Spade company built its first store, a 400 square foot (37 square metre) establishment in trendy SoHo, Manhattan, and relocated its corporate offices into a 10,000 square foot (930 square metre) building on West 25th Street.
In 1999: Spade helped the brand become more well-known by selling a 56% part in her company to Neiman Marcus Group.
In 2016: She introduced a fresh line of high-end handbags and shoes under the Frances Valentine brand.

Achievements and Awards:
In 1996: She was named "America's New Fashion Talent in Accessories" by the CFDA.
In 1998: Spade received "Best Accessory Designer of the Year" recognition from the organisation once more.
In 2017: She was recognised by Fast Company as one of the Most Creative People in Business.

Unknown facts:
When she first started making her bags, her initial supplier was a company that made potato sacks.
It became clear that she had committed suicide as more details about her death came to light.
