James Charles McConville is a general in the American Army and the 40th and existing chief of staff of the Army. From June 16, 2017, to July 26, 2019, he held the position of 36th vice chief of staff of the Army. He was previously the Army's Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel (G1). On August 9, 2019, he took on his current responsibility. McConville grew up in the Merrymount section of Quincy, Massachusetts, a city close to Boston.
