His parents are Maria Franca Fissolo and Michele Ferrero, who own the multinational confectionery corporation, Ferrero. He studied at the European Schools in Brussels, Belgium, in 1975. He then moved to the US to study marketing at Lebanon Valley College.

1997: Giovanni Ferrero returned to his family's business in Europe after completing his studies. His brother Pietro and he jointly became chairman and CEO of Ferrero in 1997.
2011: Giovanni Ferrero became Ferrero Group's sole CEO in April 2011 after his brother died in a bicycle accident in South Africa. Michele Ferrero continued to serve as executive chairman.
