Sunil Bharti Mittal was born in India on October 23, 1957. He founded the Indian conglomerate Bharti Enterprises located in New Delhi. Out of his many interests such as telecommunications, retail, and financial services, his most notable one is telecommunications. With that interest he was able to make his company the largest company by revenue in India. His father’s career in politics is what inspired them to get into business ventures. Being a first-generation entrepreneur he faced several challenges along the way but that didn’t stop him from achieving success. Here you have a man who decided to enter a market that was previously dominated by companies like Tatas, Birlas, and Ambanis.

Career:

In 1976: Sunil founded his first business at 18 in April as a first-generation entrepreneur.

In 1980: The Bharti Overseas Trading Company was founded by him and his brothers, Rakesh Mittal and Rajan Mittal.

During the 1992: Indian auction of mobile phone network licenses, he successfully bid for one of the four licenses.

In 2008: Sunil Bharti Mittal was reportedly exploring the possibility of buying MTN Group, a South African telecommunications company with operations in 21 African and Middle Eastern countries.

Shravin Mittal, Mittal's son, joined Bharti Airtel in September 2010 after working at Merrill Lynch in New York and Ernst & Young in London.

As of late 2013: Mittal announced that Bharti Airtel had acquired Warid Congo, making it the largest telecom provider in the Congo.

In 2016: After Jio was launched, Mittal changed Bharti Airtel to enable the company to compete against Jio.
