About (Profile/Biography):
Marilyn Lorraine Abbey, born in 1948, is an American computer programmer and author. Marilyn was raised in Peekskill, New York, and went to the University of Rochester, where her initial focus was astrophysics. She studied European history and received an A.B. and M.A. in 1969 and 1971, respectively, but changed her career to computer programming. She continued working in computer programming after that, and it was during this period that she developed a strong interest in science fiction. This would then pave the door for her to develop a stronger interest in writing for herself, putting her own thoughts and inspirations down on paper. She eventually relocated to Leesburg, Florida, where she worked and resided while also writing full-time since 1997.
Career:
Abbey's literary career began with Daughter of the Bright Moon and "The Face of Chaos," a short story from Thieves' World, the first volume in the shared world series. She wed the editor of the Thieves World books, Robert Asprin, on August 28, 1982, and joined him as a co-editor. In the 1980s, she also contributed to Merovingen Nights and Heroes in Hell, two shared world stories.
Around 1994, she started contributing to TSR, Inc. while continuing to write books and edit anthologies. She has written stories for TSR that are set in the Dark Sun and Forgotten Realms worlds. Beginning with The Brazen Gambit, Lynn Abbey contributed writing to TSR's Dark Sun series.
Unknown Facts:
The majority of Abbey's characters are anti-heroes.
She sustained injuries in a car accident in January 1977 as she was her route to pick up Gordon R. Dickson.
The Thieves World project was abandoned by Abbey and Asprin, but when they got divorced in 1993, Abbey was given possession of it.
