About (Profile/Biography):
Lewis Carroll, who was born on January 27, 1832, had a pen name. You may know him by Lewis Carroll. He did a handful of things in his life but was most known for his wordplay skills. However, that didn’t stop him from exploring other interests such as math and poetry. His books Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are some of his most famous works. Within them you’ll find many instances of nonsensical literature. Two of his most famous poems, Jabberwocky and The Hunting of the Snark can fall into this category too.
Career:
1849: After leaving Rugby, he matriculated at Oxford as a student of his father's old college, Christ Church, in May 1850.
1855: Lewis Carroll won the Christ Church Mathematical Lectureship, which he held for 26 years before resigning in 1881 because of ill health.
1856: In the publication 'The Train,' he published a romantic poem called 'Solitude' under the pen name 'Lewis Carroll.'
1846: Lewis Carroll wrote down one such story, Alice's Adventures Under Ground, and presented it to her, illustrating it with handwriting.
1871: Lewis Carroll published 'Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There.' He published his second great work, the fantastical poem 'The Hunting of the Snark'.
1895: The two-volume story 'Sylvie and Bruno' was published to re-establish him as a writer. Over a century later, it remains in print even though it wasn't as popular as Alice's books.
Unknown Fact:
Among other innovations, he developed a method for finding the day of the week for any date, a method for justifying right margins on typewriters, new parliamentary representation systems, fair elimination rules for tennis tournaments, double-sided adhesive strips for closing envelopes, and a device that helped bedbound invalids read from a book.
