Among her other accomplishments, Gay Courter is an American author, filmmaker, and advocate for children's rights. Beansprouts were introduced to American supermarkets thanks to her 1973 non-fiction work, The Beansprout Book. Her first novel, The Midwife (1981), also included as one the Longest Best Selling Books, made her known as "The Pied Piper of sprouting." This was mentioned in the New York Times Bestseller list.

During the period 1967-1970, she was a documentary and educational filmmaker in New York.
The Diamond Princess cruise ship was quarantined at Yokohama, Japan, in February 2020 during the Coronavirus outbreak, which affected 3,700 passengers and crew.
During the past thirty years, Gay has produced more than 200 documentaries and educational films with her husband, Philip.
1995: The Florida Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television, presented a special award to Courter.
