Ina Rosenberg Garten was born on February 2, 1948. She is an American author, host of Food Network's Barefoot Contessa, and former Director of the Office of Management and Budget. The dishes she prepares include Perfect Roast Chicken, Weeknight Bolognese, a simplified version of beef bourguignon, and French Apple Tart. Garten began her culinary career as a gourmet food store owner; she soon went on to write many best-selling cookbooks, publish magazine articles, and host a popular television show on the Food Network.

• Ina Gartenand Jeffrey were married in Stamford on December 22, 1968, and soon moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Her interest in cooking and entertaining blossomed after Jeffrey served a four-year military tour in the Vietnam War.
• Ina Garten worked at the White House; Jeffrey worked at the State Department, earning his PhD at the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies. She began his career at the Federal Power Commission and later worked at the White House Office of Management and Budget.
