Dave Barry is an American author, columnist, and humorist. He was born in Armonk, New York, on July 3, 1947. Barry's humor and satire often touch on various topics, including everyday life, current events, and popular culture. His books include "Dave Barry Turns 40," "Dave Barry's Guide to Life," and "Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys." He also won several awards for his work, including the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1988.
Dave Barry Career:
1971: Dave Barry is a general-assignment reporter for The Daily Local News in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The writer later became a feature writer and eventually a humor columnist.
1978: Dave Barry won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for his syndicated humor column in the Miami Herald. Originally published in 1979, "Taming the Screw" is one of his best-selling books. A humorous guide to home repairs was included in the book.
The 1990s: Dave Barry wrote several best-selling books in the 1990s, including "Dave Barry Talks Back" (1991), "Dave Barry Does Japan" (1992), and "Dave Barry's Only Travel Guide You'll Ever Need" (1991). He also continued to write a humor column, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1998 for the second time.
The 2000s: Dave Barry continued to publish best-selling books, including "Dave Barry Hits Below the Beltway" (2001) and "Dave Barry's Money Secrets" (2006). He co-wrote the screenplay for the 2003 film "Holes," based on a novel by Louis Sachar. He retired from writing his humor column in 2005 to focus on writing books.
